Who We Are

Hartnett Gladney Hetterman, L.L.C. has a long history of representing employee benefit plans and labor organizations. With respect to employee benefit plans, the firm represents a number of employee benefit trust funds in matters such as drafting and amending qualified employee benefit plans for welfare, pension, and vacation plans, advising fiduciaries and plan service providers on benefit plan administration and compliance issues, and representing employee benefit plans and their fiduciaries before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor. Indeed, over the years this firm has been instrumental in the creation and formation of many of the area employee benefit funds. Hartnett Gladney Hetterman, L.L.C. currently represents private and public employee benefit plans both at a local and international level.

The firm also represents a wide array of public and private sector labor unions at the local, intermediate and international levels in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Michigan in matters such as collective bargaining, grievance or unfair labor practice proceedings, regulatory and governmental affairs and internal union governance. The firm is involved in union organizing campaigns across the United States.

About Our History

Hartnett Gladney Hettermann, L.L.C., formerly known as Bartley Goffstein, L.L.C., has been in existence for over 80 years. The firm was originally founded under the name Bartley and Mayfield, and is the oldest St. Louis law firm specializing in representing labor organizations and employee benefit plans. The firm currently has nine lawyers, five of whom are partners.
